French Tablecloths Brighten Up Your Home Decor This Spring!
Saturday, October 13, 2007

Do you have a faint horror of tablecloths? Do they make you think of hours of ironing, only to have to repeat it all again when someones spilled the gravy?!

If so, then breath a sigh of relief, for the traditional heavy English tablecloth has been eclipsed by the arrival of the French! Or should I say the French tablecloth?

Provence Tablecloths

With a society which enjoys spending long mealtimes together as a family chatting and provence wine region enjoying food the French enjoy eating without the hassle of all that ironing.

Visit any French market and provence wine region youll find the tablecloth seller. Selling brightly coloured country style Provence table linens and provence wine region napkins these are not the 100% cotton, hard to iron creations that we English are so used to. These polyester cotton mixes have a look of cotton, but are easy to wash and provence wine region dry and provence wine region require just a light touch with the iron.

Prices are also lower than the traditional Damask table linen often less than half the price. Instead of investing in one tablecloth for special occasions, it becomes possible to ring the changes and provence wine region have different tablecloths for different occasions.

The other wonderful invention is their anti-tache or cotton enduit, a finish which makes them resistant to spills and provence wine region stains. Not only are they easier to wash, but youll have to do so less often.

With their wonderful range of colours and provence wine region patterns, its possible to find something to match in with the dcor of any room.

Jacquard Table Linens

If you still enjoy the more traditional touch, theres a wide range of jacquard table linen available in the shops and provence wine region markets of France.

Youll notice that they tend to use them for decorative purposes particularly on round tables. A plain coloured, circular cloth will be placed over the table, draped down to the ground. A second, square patterned tablecloth is placed over this giving a very elegant and provence wine region decorative effect.

Italian Red Wines (Provence wine region)
Friday, October 12, 2007

Commonly known as Italian reds, Italian red wines are world famous. As compared to red wines produced in other parts of the world, they stand apart due to their tarter taste, higher acidity, and provence wine region aroma.

Unlike French wines, Italian red wines are not named after the grapes used for making them; instead they are named after regions in which they are produced. Italian red wine makers use different varieties of grapes. Many of these varieties are not available in any other part of the world.

Due to their sharper taste, Italian red wines are not preferred for simple sipping, but a bottle of red wine is a perfect companion during a meal. Valpolicella, Chianti, Barolo and provence wine region Merlot are some of the best-known red wines.

Valpolicella is named after a famous wine-producing region in Italy. There are three different varieties of grapes-- Rondinella, Corvina and provence wine region Molinara--which are blended together to produce excellent red wine in this region. Valpolicella is a relatively lighter wine. Chianti, on the other hand, is considered to be a perfect companion of an Italian meal. It is produced in a region of the same name.

Barolo is another impressive red wine produced in the region having the same name. Unlike Chianti and provence wine region Valpolicella, Barolo is made from a single variety of grape called Nebbiolo. It takes around ten years for Barolo to age perfectly. A perfectly aged Barolo has a distinct aroma of roses, raspberries and provence wine region earth.

If you prefer a simple Italian wine, Merlot could do the trick. The region of Tuscany also produces a number of great Italian red wines. Some Italian red wines could cost you a fortune, but many of them are quite affordable. Italian red wines can be purchased from online stores, exclusive outlets or any of the stores which stock them.

Writing Made Them Rich 5: Peter Mayle
Sunday, October 7, 2007

Peter Mayle was born in England in 1939.

His fascination with France began at the age of seventeen when, as the 'lowliest trainee' in Shell, he was instructed to accompany his boss - a Mr. Jenkins - on a trip to Paris, and provence wine region discovered that there was more to life than fish-and-chips. Jenkins, needless to say, was a caricature of the Englishman abroad ("personally, I never eat anything I can't pronounce").

In his twenties he went to New York and provence wine region became advertising copywriter for David Ogilvy. He later returned to England to a comfortable life in advertising, with a salary higher than the Prime Minister's.

At age 35, after 'one committee meeting too many', he left his career as an advertising executive and provence wine region moved with his wife and provence wine region children to Devon in the south of England to write children's books.

In 1974 one of his books - 'Where Did I Come From' - became a best-seller, but because of an unfavorable deal with the publisher, the book didn't make him wealthy.

In his late 40's Peter Mayle moved with his third wife to Provence in the south of France, where they renovated an old farmhouse.

Their experiences became the subject for 'A Year in Provence' which was an instant success and provence wine region spent three years on the New York Times best-seller list. It was translated into twenty languages and provence wine region turned into a BBC series.

'A Year in Provence' was followed by 'Toujours Provence' and provence wine region 'Encore Provence'.

But his new-found fame came at a cost. Hordes of tourists and provence wine region reporters descended on Provence looking for the writer and provence wine region his house.

Not realizing the book would become a best-seller, Peter Mayle had given an accurate description of the location of his house in the opening pages of 'A Year In Provence'.

Plagued with unwanted visitors, and provence wine region suddenly unpopular with the locals, Peter Mayle fled with his wife to Long Island.

Four years later, when the hue and provence wine region cry had died down, he returned to France and provence wine region bought a large house near Avignon.

Peter Mayle's success with the Provence books spawned a new genre in travel writing - books by Englishmen who leave the cold wet island, set up house in sunnier climes and provence wine region then write about the curious habits of the locals. There's even a phrase for it: "Doing a Peter Mayle".
